Below are links to a variety of web sites. Some are for your planning and information while others may be used with the children. For additional sites to use with the children click on the link to "Children". Check back often as some may change as the year progresses and I become aware of new information.
The National Head Start Site. |
Our curriculum's home page. Articles, information and shopping. |
I really like this site; lots of good ideas. You can also share your ideas on her site. |
Pick a letter and get plenty of ideas for all content areas. I did not see any worksheets here. |
A new way to tie shoes. They say the shoes stay tied yet are not knotted! |
Information for teachers and games the children can play if you have online access in classroom or lab. Some activities can be printed. |
I found this very helpful for getting information to Spanish speaking families. We made Mother's Day cards and then translated the child's words to Spanish as the mother did not speak English well. You can also look up the names of everyday objects to label them in both languages when needed. |
Some may be too difficult for your class but have fun here! |
Some good activities but you must use your discretion as to which ones fit into our curriculum. |
Focuses on literacy. Poems, fingerplays and stories. Some links to other sites you may wish to use. |
Articles for the professional about teaching and assessing reading skills. |
Short stories for a variety of ages about how to treat others fairly and accept differences. I loved "The Barking Mouse". It will read to you or you can read the words to the children. Some are funny, yet make the point. |
Information on many types of sea life. I like the live cams. Sometimes the animals are not being very active though. Check it out at different times of the day. |
The best thing about this site is the great photos of the animals. If you need a zoo animal picture check here! |
If you want to study elephants check this page out. Great pictures and facts. Video is small and fuzzy. |
An online newsletter with information for professionals and tips for parents as well. |
Unfortunately the printed materials are no longer free to order, but can be downloaded on the site. There are additional activities to do with the children on the site also. |
You can place book orders online and download one hour trials of some software titles. Check out the Kids section as well as Teachers. |
Kindergarten age lesson plans and ideas that can be adapted for Head Start children. |
