Teachers' Monthly Classroom Activities

"When you give a child training to color inside the lines

you contain their colors, but you also contain their spirits."

Just a reminder about some of the resources you should have in your centers. Use your S.T.E.P. Manual; Plan Do, Review; 100 Small Group Ideas, Preschool Readers and Writers, Fee, Fie, Phonemic Awareness and Letter Links books as resources when doing lesson plans. If you are not aware of where these resources are kept please consult your Center Coordinator or Lead Teacher. Some of them may be kept in the office for you to check out.

When you use an idea on your lesson plan, please write the source under it, for example: (STEP pg. 10). It will help Ms. Hazel and myself as we look at your plans and remind you of where to find activities you wish to use again.

Below are some ideas from the High/Scope Preschool classroom that I wanted to share with you.

click on images to see the larger version.

morningmessage.JPG (34194 bytes) This is the morning message board used at the High/Scope Preschool. They use pictures images as well as words to help children make the connection. They also numbered each message within the message. 1. is the number of days off from school coming up. You will also note an error under 2. They were expecting 2 visitors as the picture shows; not four as printed.

sink.JPG (36301 bytes)

This photo shows a closeup of the sink area. The drainer is used for paint cups, brushes, etc.

artarea.JPG (24761 bytes)

Here is an overall view of the art area. The shelf with paints is to the right of the corner paper shelf.

workinprogress.JPG (15647 bytes)

I really liked this idea. The signs are available for children to use if they are working on a project they want to save until the next day or later in the day to complete. When the sign is posted no one moves the building or art project.
